Units of Competency

  • UEEHA0001 – Conduct detailed inspection of electrical installations for hazardous areas
  • UEEHA0002 – Conduct visual and close inspection of electrical installations for hazardous areas
  • UEEHA0003 – Determine the explosion-protection requirements to meet a specified classified hazardous area
  • UEEHA0004 – Enter a classified hazardous area to undertake work related to electrical equipment
  • UEEHA0005 – Install explosion-protected equipment and associated apparatus and wiring systems
  • UEEHA0006 – Maintain equipment associated with hazardous areas

Course Details

The EEHA initial training course provides licensed electricians with the skills and knowledge to work on electrical equipment in hazardous areas, for the control and monitoring of plant and processes in hazardous areas for the coal, gas and dust industries. This includes undertaking work that meets requirements of AS/NZS 60079.14 and AS/NZS 60079.17.

The course will provide accreditation to undertake electrical work in a hazardous area and aligns to the requirements outlined in AS/NZS 4761 Competencies for working with electrical equipment for hazardous areas (EEHA).

Our facilities, including up to date and comprehensive practical boards, allows course participants to apply knowledge gained in the classroom to functioning hazardous area equipment.

Course Entry Requirements

The accredited short course Electrical Equipment in Hazardous Areas delivered by Verico Training Services is for existing workers in industry who have existing experience working in and around hazardous areas. Students must:

  • Be working as an electrician in hazardous areas
  • Have six months on the job industry experience prior to training
  • Be over the age of 18 years

To ensure participants are eligible for the Verico Training Services accredited short course Electrical Equipment in Hazardous Areas, students are required to:

  • Complete the work log template provided
  • Provide six copies of inspection records from the workplace
  • Provide a copy of their electrical certificate of proficiency or electrical license
  • Complete a declaration form
  • Complete an enrolment form

Course Content

Upon completion of the course, participants will be able to:

  • undertake work that meets requirements of AS/NZS 60079.14 and AS/NZS 60079.17
  • read Ex rated equipment name plates and Certificates of Conformity
  • install, test, maintain and inspect Ex equipment

Outcomes

Successful participants receive a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment.

Assessment

Students will be provided with Assessment Workbooks outlining the assessment requirements, and tasks to be completed.

Assessment tasks include:

  • question and answer activities
  • measurements and calculations
  • simulations of practical work on Ex rated equipment
