Units of Competency

  • UEEHA0003 – Determine the explosion-protection requirements to meet a specified classified hazardous area
  • UEEHA0004 – Enter a classified hazardous area to undertake work related to electrical equipment
  • UEEHA0011 – Supervise repair and overhaul of explosion-protected equipment type flameproof (Ex d)
  • UEEHA0012 – Supervise repair and overhaul of explosion-protected equipment type increased safety (Ex e)

The following electives are available upon request and will incur additional fees.

  • UEEHA0010 – Supervise repair and overhaul of explosion-protected equipment type Group III (‘t’)
  • UEEHA0013 – Supervise repair and overhaul of explosion-protected equipment type intrinsically safe (Ex i)
  • UEEHA0014 – Supervise repair and overhaul of explosion-protected equipment type pressurised (Ex p)
  • UEEHA0015 – Supervise repair and overhaul of explosion-protected rotating machines

Course Details

The Overhaul/Repair of Explosion Protected Equipment Refresher course is for those working in overhaul/repair workshops (including those with electrical and mechanical trades).The course revisits and updates the skills and knowledge required to work on explosion protected equipment and systems for the control and monitoring of plant and processes in hazardous areas for the coal, gas and dust industries.

In accordance with the AS/NZS 3800, Verico Training Services recommends that the overhaul/repair competencies are refreshed every 2-3 years.

The course will provide continued accreditation to undertake overhaul and repair work in a hazardous area and aligns to the requirements outlined in AS/NZS 4761.1 Competencies Standards for working with electrical equipment for hazardous areas (EEHA).


  • Must be existing industry employees, working in an overhaul/repair workshop
  • 6 months on the job, industry experience prior to training
  • Must be over the age of 18 years

To ensure participants are eligible for the Verico Training Services accredited short course, students are required to:

  • Complete the work log template provided
  • Provide twelve copies of  inspection records from the workplace
  • Provide a copy of their electrical certificate of proficiency or electrical license
  • Complete a declaration form
  • Complete an enrolment form

Course Content

Upon completion of the course, participants will be able to:

  • establish and document the level of work required
  • arrange for the overhaul/repair to be carried out
  • identify and select authorized components
  • follow repair specifications
  • verify compliance of overhauled/repaired equipment
  • complete required documentation


Successful participants receive a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment.


Students will be provided with Assessment Workbooks outlining the assessment requirements, and tasks to be completed.

Assessment tasks include:

  • question and answer activities
  • measurements and calculations
  • simulations of practical work on Ex rated equipment

Students are required to log overhaul/repair jobs as part of their workplace evidence. This will provide a record of a student’s current industry employment, plus validate their experience.
