AS3800 Overhaul & Repair Initial Training Course 

Course Details

The AS3800 Overhaul training course is for those working in overhaul and repair workshops (including those with electrical, mechanical trades). The course covers the skills and knowledge required to work on explosion-protected equipment and systems for the control and monitoring of plant and processes in hazardous areas for the coal, gas and dust industries.

The units within this course meet the competency requirements of AS/NZS 3800-2012 Electrical equipment for explosive atmospheres - Repair and overhaul. This means that the course meets the requirements outlined in Australian/New Zealand Standard AS/NZS 4761.1 Competencies for working with electrical equipment for hazardous areas (EEHA) Part 1: Competency Standards for Overhaul and repair of explosion-protected equipment.

Course Location

Our training centre is located near Newcastle, NSW, centrally located to Maitland, Central Coast and the Hunter Valley coalfields. We can also train at your site, any state in Australia.

Duration/Dates

This 4 day course is held monthly. See training calendar for dates.

Pre-requisites

  • Must be existing industry employees, working in an overhaul/repair workshop

  • It is desirable that students have 3 - 6 months on the job, industry experience prior to training

  • Must be over the age of 18 years

Course Content

Upon completion of the course, participants will be able to:

  • establish and document the level of work required

  • arrange for the overhaul/repair to be carried out

  • identify and select authorized components

  • follow repair specifications

  • verify compliance of overhauled/repaired equipment

  • complete required documentation

Assessment

Students will be provided with Assessment Workbooks outlining the assessment requirements, and tasks to be completed.

Assessment tasks include:

  • question and answer activities

  • measurements and calculations

  • simulations of practical overhaul/repair work on Ex rated equipment

Students are required to log overhaul/repair jobs as part of their workplace evidence. This will provide a record of a student’s current industry employment, plus validate their experience.

Outcomes

Successful participants receive a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment.
